Default FPP and bonus rewards taxable?

Say you're SN and you make 200K vpp's in 1 year. If you purchase only the $1500 reward bonus from the store each time you reach 100K fpp's, you make ~$12k for the year in fpp & bonus money.

Is this money taxable?

I heard an argument that this money can be considered a 'rebate' and that there is no need to report it. True or BS?

This is similar to the gift bags the celebrities were always getting. Well, last year for the Oscars, instead of having the 50K gift bag, the paid everybodies back tax liabilities.
