Is BBV more of a problem than other OT forums?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. There seems to be one big problem with bbv not present in other forums: the posting of nsfw images.

Personally, I don't care. The site owner does. That's it. Can we fix that? Are there volunteers out there who feel like enforcing that rule and dealing with all the whining afterward?

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a much better solution than shutting down an entire forum.

Look, how hard would it be to just put a sticky up top that says "NSFW images inline = permaban"? And then enforce it, because everybody's had fair warning?

fwiw I have tried a lot of different styles of modding for bbv/bbv4l. Before we had to reboot the forum with citanul a while back (remember yves?), I made very clear guidelines (this gets you banned, don't do this, don't do that) and it just didn't take. We basically had to tempban half the forum and start over from scratch.

The idea that has worked pretty well until the last month or so (when I have been mostly awol) is the following creed:

"BBV/BBV4l Guidelines: use common sense, treat other posters with respect, no racism, no spamming or begging, don't suck. Follow these tenets and you will be happy."

The keyword here is common sense. The idea of what common sense is has changed so dramatically in bbv4l over the past few months that it makes me not want to be a part of bbv4l.

I thought (perhaps futilely) that I had an uneasy truce with the regular posters of the forum. As long as they respect these VERY LOOSE guidelines, they can basically do what they want and I will take care of the rest (kill spammers, tempban troublemakers, etc). This formula only really works with a very active mod who can lead by example, and I haven't really been active at all lately in terms of bbv4l presence. A lot of the reason is because a) I don't have a lot of time and have been out of town basically every weekend and b) I just don't like the direction of posting or where the forum is headed at all and I'm not excited to read bbv4l anymore.

Humour is a pretty sensitive thing and I like to think I have a good sense of humor. But is posting pictures of bbv drawn on some guy's dick funny or appropriate for a private forum? Is posting inline horse porn appropriate or funny for a private forum?

Also, what is perhaps the most disruptive problem in bbv is having regular posters promote anarchy (or even less rules), question every single decision (even the nobrainer decisions) and start these retarded "free xxx" campaigns. It is like a revolving door of stupidity that goes something like this:

-people are generally under control
-regular poster does something over the line that he knows is pushing the boundary of decency (example: posting mspaint of tufffish' daughter getting raped, posting pictures of horse porn, etc)
-regular poster gets punished for something and forces my hand
-other regular posters get all pissy and start a bunch of threads about it
-here we are

I have tried to be as fair as possible and give regular posters who contribute chances to reform themselves. But some lines just can't be crossed, and when you cross the line you tie my hands and make everyone miserable. I don't want to lose good posters and I don't want to ban people who I consider to be an asset to the forums. But if you repeatedly push the envelope and make modding extremely difficult you are going to get banned eventually; it is just a matter of time.

Honestly, closing down BBV4L for me would be like me being a crackhead and someone telling me no one was going to sell crack anymore.

So Gildwulf just wrote a 20,000 word dissertation on the problems with the forum he mods. Yeah you guys aren't stressing him out at all...like I said, he deserves better.

So just to clarify, mat you want another moderator whose sole purpose is to ban people for posting inline NSFW images?

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of folks who would volunteer for this position if it meant saving the forum.
