Kinder trip report. Poker, rock stars, and stuff + I suck at poker

My "home" casino is Cypress Bayou in Charenton, but I decided to take the 1 1/2 hour drive to Kinder for the Friday night donkafest extrvaganza, better known as the re-buy tourney from hell.

I arrived at 5pm and signed up as contestant #75. They take 100 with alternates. I decided to kill some time playing...er...donking around at 3-6-12, and managed to win $120 by 7pm. In those 2 hours I was the only person to raise before the flop. Looking back, I should'a stayed at that table.

The tourney started at 7:30, so I hoofed it to the deli for a sandwich. Little did I know, the group Poison was playing that night. As I passed the $5 slots, I saw a crowd had gathered around a machine.(A crowd meaning some really hot freaking chicks with big eighties hair, and yet, they were all 18-21 years old...or younger.) Sure enough, CC Deville was playing $5 slots with some 14-year-old on his hip (14 as in she was actually 18 but in this state nobody cares.)

---FLASHBACK---

1989 and I'm working for Vince McMahon and the WWF as a ring announcer. I was assigned to the midwest circut and found myself in Minot, North Dakota. WTF?!?! Anyways, the group Poison was in town the night after our gig. We didn't have another show until Bismarck the night after that, so I stayed, got a room, and went to the Poison concert. (Hey, it was freaking North Dakota and I was bored ALRIGHT?)

So I go to the Poison concert, with Ratt opening and I freaking LOVE Ratt. I bullshirt by way backstage and run into King Ratt who says, "Hey! You're that announcer dude from the WWF, I freaking LOVE Hulk Hogan. Tell me about him!" So blah, blah I tell King Ratt about Hulk, Andrea The Giant, and all the rest. Soon, we find ourselves at the Poison tour bus and King Ratt is banging on the door. Ricky Rocket lets us in as King Ratt says that, "I'm cool."

I walk in and its like a Shieks haram. There are hot chicks everywhere, booze, blow on the table. And there in the midst of it all is CC, Brett, Ricky, and that other dude from Poison. I sit down and proceed to partake in some illicit activities. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll were all flowing that night on the bus. (Of course, I'm sure it flowed like that every night on the bus, but it was a first for me)

The next thing I remember, the sun is up, the bus is rolling, I'm nekked, there is a big-haired hot girl next to me, and I don't know where the hell I am. I somehow find my clothes and mosey up the bus driver. "Where are we?", I ask. "Minneapolis." comes the reply. Faaaaaaaaaaaaaak! That's like 10 hours from where I was! The bus driver tells me that he's heading to the Greyhound station so I can get a ride back to North Dakota. Apparently this kinda thing happened quite often. I hop a Greyhound back to Minot and somehow make it to Bismarck the next night in time for the show.

---FLASHFOWARD---

So there is CC Deville and his 14-year-old groupie playing $5 slots, my how things come around. Oh well, I need a freaking sandwich!

Weird re-buy structure on this one. For $20 you get 200, for another $40 you get 1000 more. Uh, okay. Anytime you hit 700 or less, you can re-buy $20 for another 500. At the first break, you can get 3500 for $50 and another 1000 for $10 as the dealer special. So I pay $60 and get 1200 chips and away we go!

Level 1- Blinds 5/10. I get QJ on the button and limp with the rest. Flop comes 5 Q J. MP bets, a couple of folds, I raise the pot and only he calls. He shall be known from here on as my NEMESIS!!! Turn is a blank. NEMESIS checks, I make a pot sized bet, NEMESIS calls. River is A. Faaaaaaaaak! He checks, I push, he calls with A5. Rebuy on table 16!

Level 2- Blinds 10/20. I'm on the button AGAIN and get AK. NEMESIS makes it 200 to go. There are like 5 callers, so I raise it to 2000. NEMESIS goes all-in, the rest fold and I call. His 88 is goot. Rebuy on table 16!

Level 3- 25/50. I get 44 in LP and limp along with NEMESIS. The flop comes 4 9 something. NEMESIS bets, I raise, he pushes, I call and NEMESIS has 99! Re-buy!

We hit the first break after level 4 and I have 1100 chips. I add on for the full 4500 and the tourney continues.

Level 5- 100/200. I get 97 offsuit in the BB and check the option after 5 or 6 limpers. The flop comes 6 8 10. YAHTZEE! I check and its checked around! ARGH! Turn is a J. I bet 1000, lady to my left calls, all others fold and the river is A. I bet 2000, she calls and flashes a J to me as she mucks. I pick up a few small pots and I've got about 15000 when this hand comes up...

Level 6- 200/400. I've got A7 sooted on the button and there are 2 limpers. I call and the flop comes Axx. The BB goes all-in for her last 2000, the other fold, and I call and lose to AQ. Meh.

Still Level 6- 200/400. I'm in the BB with 13000. UTG makes it 2000, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 goes all-in for 5000, some folds, LP goes all-in for his last 5000 and I peek and see AQ offsuit. I can already see that UTG and UTG+1 are going to fold, and I don't think LP has a better hand than me from his demeanor. So I tank. UTG+2 says, "I've got a good pair." The pot has about 15000, its 5000 to call, that's 3-1 right? I call. (Comments welcome) UTG+1 has JJ, LP has QJ and I have the AQ. Case J on the flop and now I have 8200.

Level 7- 300/600. Getting short now and waiting for a hand. Little old lady raises it to 2000 UTG and I have AK. Ugh, ANYBODY but the little old lady and its insta-push. I push anyway and she calls with AA. I have her covered by a whopping 200 chips and I'm left with TWO chips and a chair.

I manage to win 2 hands in a row blind, and I have 1500 chips, but the blinds are now 500/1000 and I go out quickly after that with J4 sooted.

Sickest hand I saw. A short stack goes all-in for 2000, and medium stack goes over the top for 8000. NEMESIS calls. Short has 10 10. Medium has JJ. NEMESIS has AJ offsuit and catches runner runner str8. Medium goes off on NEMESIS calling every name in the book as he leaves the table.

The good news is, NEMESIS'S luck eventually ran out and he busted out BEFORE me! YIPPEE!!!!

Have you ever played in any of the Saturday Tournaments? I was thinking about making the trip for one, the structure looks good (8k chips 25-50 20 mins)

No, but I hear its a good one. Freezeout too which makes for tighter play from your opponents right off the bat.

Nice report, especially the trip down mem'ry lane, but...

Why shove here? Good bet on the turn and dreadful call by NEMESIS, but why shove when checked to you on the river? Did you mean to represent something like AQ or AJ given the flop, re-raise and turn bet? Flat calling a raise on the flop and a pot-sized turn bet woulda had me thinking he flopped a set and was trapping. No reason not to check on the river.

if this is like other rebuys i've played in louisiana, it's a total value shove. plenty of Ax call downs never fold, any Q never folds, it's sick.
