In reality, i'm betting turn for a few reasons: 1) value; 2) mix it up; 3) pretty sure he loves to float me - he constantly thinks i'm full of [censored]. I agree the river check is dreadful. Do you think the turn is a mandatory check?

[/ QUOTE ]

1) value: you think hes gonna call you with 99??
2) mix it up: a fancy way of people saying "im not sure"
3) he loves to float: so all your doing is letting him get away cheaply. If he loves to float, the turn is such an easy c/c.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well to be perfectly honest, yes I do think he will call my turn bet w/ 99 a good amount of the time. He kind of abhors folding - and I'm quite certain views me as an aggro monkey. I also think he could call sometimes w/ straight or flush draws - planning to bluff rivers.

"Mix it up" - you are right. It is BS somewhat. But i don't think you can play your hands the same way everytime. Maybe i'm off, but if villains know that you will cbet mid pair on the flop and check it on every turn (instead of firing again) - then your play becomes quite exploitable.

[/ QUOTE ]

how does it become exploitable? if you know they are going to bet when you check, you know you can call.

oh, and if you know hes gonna bet the river again, you can call again.

building big pots with 2nd pair seems pretty exploitable to me.

Blah. I suck at poker. And running this bad is effecting my decision making.

Anyway, though we are in accordance that I played the hand terribly - simply from a hand-reading exercise - what do you put villain on w/ his shove on the river?

he prob had something like ATss, QTss, Q9ss, AJ, JT, J9, retarded hands.

but ive never played with him, so idk what he can have.

the more i think about it, i think i'd prefer a c/f on the river over c/c, but since i would never check in the first place, i wouldnt have to make a tough decision.

fwiw, im in the krantz camp (i think it was him) where i prefer to CALL the first time someone does something really weird, so that i can adjust properly next time.

...as opposed to most other people who argue to let him do it once, but if he tries it again, call him down. (and im actually very much against this idea)
