If I say " tap " ( not tapis) in a live card game, am I checking or going all-in?

listen retard, I don't say tap, it's why I'm asking, because someone else is trying to tell me this means all-in, I have never heard this anywhere, thought on 2+2 I might get some sensible answers to a "settle an arguement question"
