Which IMHO doesn't make a lot of sense. The custom tab merely should be a client side filter of the data coming in from the other tabs. It should not put any strain on the server's side whatsoever. If it was properly developed of course.

It screws up programs like PTS and basically makes then unsusable

Yeah, I'm assuming that with a custom tab for every game it resulted in doubling the number of queries and the amount of data being downloaded and that's just silly.

Poker Table Scan, instead of scanning ~60 tables for a limit you have to scan all ~600 of them, means the scan takes around 30 minutes which is useless
