5/10 live 87s tricky spot
Live 5/10. Effective stacks 1100 Great game with lots of action both pf and beyond. Villian in this hand has shown that he is somewhat of a station with medium strength hands, although he has shown the ability to fold for significant action when he belives he is beat. On to the hand.
Villian opens for 40 in MP1, one call, I call with 87spades, button calls, bb calls. Flop: 457r one spade. Villian bets 200 (psb) one fold, I pause for a few moments, consider both raising and folding, and call to see what develops. At this point I put him on an overpair of TT-QQ, and feel that I have a solid draw with good implied odds and possibly future fold equity. Everyone else folds, and the turn is an offsuit 9. Villian leads for 300 into a 600 dollar pot. I consider folding and semibluffing allin, but I again decide to call. We stare at each other while the river is dealt and he checks without looking. I comment on this and he says that the last card doesn't matter. I put him precisely on one pair looking for a cheap showdown and decide that my best play is to push allin for 630 or so. Thoughts? Comments on all streets appreciated. Specfically, who likes a flop raise? Who likes a flop fold? Who likes a turn fold? |

Re: 5/10 live 87s tricky spot
Sorry the river was a five, which I figured added a greater chance of him folding one pair, because now a hand like 65 got there. Thoughts?

Re: 5/10 live 87s tricky spot
Which mistake was greater: the turn call or the river bluff?

Re: 5/10 live 87s tricky spot
the turn call is bad.
push or fold the turn. push if you have a good image and known to nutpeddle or like to trap people with big bets intended to look like bluffs. fold if you look like somebody confused in this spot. flop: raise it baby. |

Re: 5/10 live 87s tricky spot
I def agree that villian wants a cheap showdown. If you think he is somewhat of a thinking player is capable of folding, shove it. Kind of read dependent here.
I'm not sure if i'd call the flop for a PSB though, since you said he has trouble folding marginal hands and his bet seems like TT-QQ to me also. |

Re: 5/10 live 87s tricky spot
I think calling/raising the flop is the best option because a fold seems really weak when I have position on someone who will pay me off when I hit. I guess I should have realized that I should be playing for value and less for fold equity on the river. I agree, fold/push the turn is a much better line.
