He wrote the introduction to the edition I have of With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge. Sledge was featured throughout Ken Burn's documentary. I'm rereading the book now, a plain spoken yet harrowing account of Peleliu and Okinawa told from the perspective of an infantryman written from notes many years after the war.

It fits perfectly if you posit that Iraq II has something to do with W.'s supposed daddy issues. YMMV, but its a theory at least...
