Default F U Excel (help me)

This is a sheet from another source that I am adding stuff to. It won't calc my formulas. It just shows the formula itself. Ctrl + tilde only toggles the pre-existing formulas, and doesn't do anything to my new one. What da problem is?

Cells in question have special formatting? For example, I just tried formatting a cell as text and then entering a forumla and it displayed the same as your example. Not sure if there are other formats that would do the same.

It was formatted as text, but I tried changing it to a variety of others. Same result.

You have to delete the forumla, change the formatting (to General), then reenter the formula. If you simply changed the formatting of the cell that already said "left(d14,8)", this would have no effect. If that isn't the problem, you've got me.
