playing small pairs OOP vs a solid player sucks in this sort of spot, but if your call will bring the fish in too then it's probably worth it. There's a good chance one of the two will flop something that can give some action if you make a set, and the extra player bloats the pot so that you can get the money in with fewer bets postflop

Check-raising here is very bad against a solid TAG. You have MUCH more value leading like your did. Check/calling would be very player dependent (same with check/folding).

FWIW, if MP had come along for the ride, OP would need to win approximately $100 extra AFTER the flop when he flops his set to be about a break-even call. Usually (not in this case) about a third of that is going to be from a C-Bet. I think the preflop call is definitely +EV.
