Default beat: live poker

So I decided to test the waters at a Toronto home game this weekend. The advertisement said $40 tourney (no rake) and the guy told me there would be some 5/5 and 1/2 nl action. Sweet, I'll bring $2k just in case.

Cab there: -$13
Tourney: busted out when QQ<KK preflop, ldo ($-40)
Cash game: they only spread 1/2 (200 max) even though the guy promised 5/5 I figured, wtf I took a cab there...why not. No interesting hands... your basic crappy $1/2 NL game. Lots of multiway limped pots and people buying in for $40 and pushing all-in UTG with QJ for 20 BB. Total cash game winnings: $80.
Cab back: -$16

Time spent playing cards in a dude's house: 5 hours

Total profit: +$11...$2.20/hr sustainable?

Variance: watched the MTV movie awards and the Borat movie and had some free Chinese food.

Verdict: Live poker is retarded. From now on I'm not putting on pants unless it's NL500+.

there were a couple young "pro poker players" there. One of them was the dealer and dropped out of college. He tried to convince me online poker is rigged. Most of the others were young college-age or early 20s.

im just saying that in the poker world NL200 is nothing, but in the early 20 college students life, 1 NL200 buyin is often 2 full days of work. The only way to get properly staked for a game like NL500 is to sell drugs or hit it big online, that or be young and have an insanely good paying job or rich parents.
