How FAR have you moved from where you grew up?
was talking about this with some friends yesterday. some had lived all over the country etc.
i'm 20 and have lived in the same town all my life - apart from 8 months a year when i live on my own-ish in another city at University. but i do want to live in other places at some stage. London, New York, Las Vegas and a few others are on my 'life-list'. anyway - question is how far are you from where you were born? maybe also include when/why you moved? what were the benefits/downsides of living in many different places? ok tyia. Re: How FAR have you moved from where you grew up?
I'm a typical American, I've lived all over the place.
Born near Chicago, grew up in Arkansas, lived in the Atlanta area for 14 years, now near Sacramento, California. So, 2000-odd miles from where I was born. |

Re: How FAR have you moved from where you grew up?
i should add that it has only been in the last 2 years that i have lived in the other city (Leicester - about 100 miles from home) for 8 months each year.
my first 18 years were solely in hometown. but i am well traveled in terms of holidays etc... aus,hong-kong, various in usa.. most of europe... but obv living in a place is v different to staying in a hotel and not doing any work for 2 weeks then flying home with a tsn... in a more general point... should we aspire to live in different places? maybe it is a bit sad/wasteful to live in one place all your life? obv you have to take into account having the funds etc to be able to move.. |

Yes, I said 'typical American' but so far maybe not so typical.
Very American to follow the money wherever it may be, though. |

Re: How FAR have you moved from where you grew up?
Lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Colorado, Georgia, Wisconsin, Germany, and Malta. Several places in each state/country. These are all places I have lived, not travelled; that list would be much longer. Texas barely counts, as I was only there 6 weeks, but I was born there, so it's on the list.
Almost half my life was spent in Atlanta (5 areas in Atlanta that I can think of off the top of my head). I am currently about 6000 miles from where I was born and 5300 miles from where I grew up. I'm 25 now. I try to move every 6 months to a year. My thing when I was younger was that I would never own more than I could fit in the trunk of my car. Now I don't even own a car. I do have about a truck-load worth of books at my mother's house. Whenever I visit, I bring books I've bought since I was last there and leave them. |

Re: How FAR have you moved from where you grew up?
Im the perfect 2 hours away.
Perfect because it's close enough for my parents to visit, but far enough that they don't do it very often... |

Re: How FAR have you moved from where you grew up?
I was born in Northern WI but that can't count as my family moved to Columbus Ohio when I was only 2.
Grew up in Columbus until I was 20 and moved to SE WI. About 450 Miles Was in a couple of different towns but basically SE WI for 19 years until we moved here to SE Montana. A little over 1000 miles Been out here in the middle of nowhere for 8 years now. LOVE IT! |
