Default Live 6/12 Game: Fancy pants or expert level?

Villain is not too bad. Cold calls too much, but I had yet to see him 3 bet pf in over 90 minutes. Post flop he's kind of aggressive, but also will peel light. BB is god awful.

Hero is UTG+1 with AQo. Hero raises, and MP1 3-bets as next to act. Folds to the BB who calls two cold. Hero calls. I put MP1 on JJ+ and AQ+, with maybe some other hands showing up on occasion.

9 Small bets
Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

BB checks, hero checks, MP1 checks.

4.5 Big bets
Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

BB checks, hero checks, MP1 bets, BB calls, Hero raises

Hero bets flop, calls a raise

If just called on flop, hero bets turn. If raised on flop, hero c/c and folds an UI river.

I started off taking the check/call line because we're in a WA/WB spot (one of us has 3 outs or less). When he checked the flop, I decided he almost had to have AK (or maybe JJ or QQ).

Anyway? Other opinions? Does everyone think I have to bet this flop?

if I checked flop I would be looking to C/R.
are you sure villain's range is that narrow? his flop check behind now looks a lot like underpair.
as played I would definitely lead the turn.

Was I sure he was that tight? No, but he's not an idiot and I raised from EP. I really think he's got at worst TT and AQ+. I had not seen him 3-bet pf in 50 hands.

If his range is actually JJ+ and AQ+, then on the flop I'm' ahead of:

6 JJ, 12 AK

and behind

1 QQ, 6 KK, and 3 AA

Hmmm, interesting. I was thinking it was closer to 50/50, but I seem to be quite a bit ahead of his range here, even if he is that tight.

I like it.

You might have got a bet out of JJ, TT, 99 that you might not have otherwise.

I think it would be a reasonable play except that you've got a terrible player still kicking around here. Checking the turn especially might induce a bet from the decent player, but if it doesn't you're giving away too much to those who you really should be charging.

this line is fine if you're sure that someone's gonna bet the turn.

As I said, he had been playing pretty aggro post-flop. He 3-bet pf and I just couldn't see him not betting the turn after we both checked to him twice. I'm trying to think if there is any hand he could hold that he'd check, and I really just don't see one. At this point he has to believe that AK is winning, doesn't he?

As for letting the terrible player draw for free....yes I agree that would have been a catastrophe. But I was figuring it was 90% the villain would bet.

I like your line. Once he checks the flop there's a pretty good chance that your hand is good. And if your hand is good then you're one the good side of WA/WB.

The question is whether or not he'll bet. I think that a player at this limit who is aggressive enough to three bet AK preflop will fire a dry board when it's been checked to him twice.

And since you're way ahead, this is a much better way to get some money in the pot. Unless he has JJ and he's kind of weak he's probably folding if you bet.
