Default Re: Caught Cheating--What to do?

This thread got me thinking since I just moved back to New York after three years in L.A. and will probably be playing in a bunch of games where I don't really know anyone. Is there a good site that list things to look out for to make sure a particular game is on the up and up? I was at Caesar's poker room in Vegas recently and some guy at my 2/5 NL table jumped up and started freaking out, accused the dealer of cheating in cahoots with one of the players, called the floor man over. I had pulled in about $800 from the player he was supposedly in cahoots with, so I was pretty sure there was no cheating going on...but this guy was convinced and was yelling about something he saw them do...signalling him to call by scratching his finger or something. It was kind of entertaining, but also got me thinking that since I've always played in casinos, I always assume all is fine given cameras, etc. so never really looked out for cheating. Now that I'm back in New York (sad - I'll miss the beauty of LA poker and the proximity to Vegas) I'll be playing in somewhat less legit games, so I should probably make sure I know the lay of the land.

Thanks

It's a "him or me" situation. If you are certain he is cheating, you don't want to play the game with this fellow, whether he deals or not. You have to find a way to out him, either publicly or privately to the game host. If that doesn't get him out of the game, then quit.

I'm going to combine a few ideas with one of my own. First, type and print out what you think will happen the first hand after the break. Have this in your pocket. Then, shove PF. This will probably prevent him from playing the hand, but if he calls and sucks out you can pull out the paper with you theory typed on it and ask him if it's just a wierd coincidence that it keeps happening.

this is what i was thinking

I would not tell anybody until you have evidence, however if you are so sure, it`s pretty -ev to stay in that game.

Try to figure out if there is a complice in the game. You always use new sealed cards ? check the seal. Do you randomly cut the cards. Take a good look if he is keeps cards in his palm, or peaks at cards. Next time after the break, tell everybody you saw a broken card in the deck and request to check the deck, and take it out of his hands while he`s dealing, count the cards, etc.

I have never ever cheated in poker games, however I knew how to prepare the deck pretty good in another card game I used to play for money in my fathers pool hall when I was a kid. I learned it not to get cheated by other players there. You wouldn`t imagine all the tricks they can pull at you.

Btw, who cuts the cards after the break, when they screw seat 3 ?

When I caught someone cheating in a home game I called him out on it. At the time I worked with him so I could not hurt him. Cheating someone is wrong and should be delt with force. Because I didnt do something about it the guy still plays in home games and is cheating someone else

nuts at the time, because obviously if the dealer is cheating he'll turn or river a better hand

This qualification doesn't need to be made. The term "nuts" means the best possible hand AT THAT TIME. So 99 on a 952 flop is the nuts even though it will never be the nuts on the river.

What if the turn or river is a rainbow nine?
