Beirut\'s Gulag Orkestar - My First Album Recommendation in a while
Direct link to Download "Postcards from Italy" from their Myspace
Beirut's Myspace page with a couple more songs I think a lot of people here are fans of Gogol Bordello and I feel this should appeal to those people. I also know a lot of people are fans of Neutral Milk Hotel and I feel as though this should appeal to them too. I want to describe their sound to you, but I'm fairly terrible at it, but I would say it's VERY Eastern European with a lot of accordians and brass, and stomp and tambourine percussion. The vocals are great, too, with very drawn out notes (and it sounds like they were possibly recorded on lo-fi equipment, although the whole CD kind of has that feeling). Other songs on the album have ukelele and even keyboards. It's almost a pop album in certain places (like Scenic World, which might be what the Postal Service would sound like if they were posting between America and the Balkans). Anyway, I think you should give it a listen, as it isn't just another indie rock release. |
