Default Comm 40: Another fold I made

This one came up yesterday a couple of hours or so after the one I just posted. Game's gotten significantly better since then.

SB is Frenchie. He's a regular at the LA casinos and frequently goes on bouts of alcohol/rage-induced tilt. He has about 5 racks in front of him and has only had one glass of wine; he probably is playing too many hands, but seems to be playing them okay post-flop so far today. We've played a lot together and, for whatever reason, he seems to like me; we've had several friendly chats in between hands today.

Button is a random middle-aged white guy who thinks he's good at poker because he's been playing a long time, but he's bad.

Folded to me in the CO with QQ. Button thinks a moment and decides to call -- I got the feeling he had considered 3-betting. SB calls, BB folds.

Flop: 8s2h7s

SB checks, I bet, Button calls. SB says, "I think he [ShawnHoo] has some crap hand" and calls.

Turn: 9d

SB says "I hope you have Ace-Queen" and donks. I say "Ace-Queen" and raise, Button folds. SB turbo 3-bets, I fold.

Coming from a bad player, these comments indicate a strong made hand on the flop. Therefore he likely has one of {87,22,77,88}, giving you 8 outs 33% of the time, and 2 outs 67% of the time. The good news is that if you call, the river should be pretty easy to play; but the bad news is you won't be able to extract two bets when you do river a winner. The pot is currently laying you 10:1, so I guess it's kind of close.

This is a tougher one. Stephan has been drinking less and has become a fairly tough player. He's making far fewer "moves" OOP against players he perceives as tough, as well as folding his blinds more against such players. So while he might well have had something like 9-7s or some other hand that you are ahead of or have 5 outs against a few months ago, you're much more likely now to be drawing either dead or to 2 outs. That "I think he has some crap hand; I hope you have A-Q" speech is trouble as well.

That said, he's not beyond playing J-J or T-T like this. It would seem wrong to play those hands like this on the flop, but I've seen him do it more often than just about any other player there. But you're likely looking at J-T or a set.

when people talk like that i means their huge, I wouldn't be surprised to see JT or a set or here. I fold the turn b/c we've pretty much turned our hand face up as an overpair and he just doesn't care

sure but this way we don't charge ourselves for our 2-6 outer and we end up paying less or the same than if we raisefold the turn which really doesn't seem to accomplish anything at all imo. this is of course going to leave us with a river decision to make. i agree about his talking tell.

A problem with just calling the turn is the presence of The Third Man behind.

I agree with just call turn / evaluate on river. The fact that he is talking trumps all other concerns, you are likely beat, better to invest those two bets showing down. Just folding is a solid option on the turn two.
