Not 3 betting AA/KK in late positin
I always 3 bet these hands in late position because I like to get heads up and shut out the blinds. Should I ?
I saw an article (cant find it again). Stating that you should only cold call because this is such a strong hand which wants more people in the pot, I dont know |

3-bet. You don't want to play a multiway pot with hands like these if you can prevent it.

You can't go wrong with always 3betting. Under specific circumstances coldcalling with just the raiser in the pot can be OK sometimes.

Re: Not 3 betting AA/KK in late positin
Stox makes an argument for calling with KK and AA in the SB when facing a steal and with a tight BB. I guess in similiar situations when you are OTB with tight blinds you can coldcall.
The problem is that for balance you need to coldcall other hands as well. As a default you should just 3-bet at low stakes and dont get fancy. Up to and at 5/10 you win by playing ABC. Not by playing fancy pants poker. |

I think Oink nailed it. You need to have other coldcalling hands. Personally I almost never coldcalls so if I were to begin coldcalling only AA and KK it would be easy to exploit for an observant opponent.

Up to and at 5/10 you win by playing ABC. Not by playing fancy pants poker. [/ QUOTE ] That's true. For some reason though I'm always trying things like advanced protection plays and free showdown raises. I usually end up saying "well, it was a good raise in theory." |

Re: Not 3 betting AA/KK in late positin
I'm guessing the article referenced in the OP is written by someone who has a beginner-level understanding of limit hold'em.
Just 3-bet and let your opponents make bigger mistakes for more chips. If you don't 3-bet, the originial raiser likely won't get the chance to cap against your AA/KK, right? |
