Default KU gets off easy!

KU should have been penalized much worse. God obviously loves his Jayhawks...

Infractions:
-Monetary benefits to KU basketball players and families ~$5000.
-"Improper" benefits to KU football players including test-taking assistance (I think the NCAA usually takes this infraction very seriously).
-11 infractions in all.

Penalties:
-Three years probation.
-Loss of 1 basketball and 3 football scholarships over the next two seasons.
-Loss of 8 paid recruiting visits.

-No regular or post-season game penalties of any kind.
-No real blow to the image of the university.

This is peanuts to what could (should) have been the penalties. KU got off incredibly easy. As a Kansas alum, I'm loving this, and the backlash from other universities could get entertaining, too. Nice.

Losing Roy Williams to Carolina was punishment enough for all Jayhawk faithful.

Jerry Tarkanian had a quote about times like these. Something to the effect of: "The NCAA is pretty mad that Kentucky is cheating, so they're going to put Cleveland State on probation."

Yeah, that seems pretty light to me. Don't worry the Gators are going to make them pay early this season, too.

Wow. We lost, I believe, 8 football scholarships b/c our academic advisors were telling athletes to take classes that were no longer on the NCAA approved list.

does this surprise anyone?

the NCAA has always had its favorites and its villains. Unfortunately, I've always pulled for one of the villain schools.

I've tried to make the world aware of this before and no one cares .

Not too surprised, I guess, but I was still relieved that the NCAA didn't choose to make an example of KU. Even given the slack given top programs by the NCAA, KU's penalty is still amazingly light.

The playing field in college athletics is obviously just as slanted as it has ever been, if not more so. Happy to take advantage. Go 'Hawks!
