Default computer suddenly insanely slow

I went to bed last night with my computer working fine. Woke up this morning and it's so slow that it takes 10 minutes for mozilla to open up.

Task manager shows CPU usage above 90% at all times. System is using up around 25%, explorer 20% and the rest split among various other processes. I haven't installed anything new. I don't see any new processes. I don't see any new services running.

I checked msconfig and there is nothing new there. I created a new user account and there's still the same problem.

I'm running Sygate Personal Firewall, ProcessGuard, SnoopFree and AVG. Virus scan detects nothing. It's a macbook pro that I'm running windows on. w t f

I had the exact same problem about a month ago and I reinstalled windows to fix it. Virus scan isn't picking up anything and I'm very secure. Everything is up to date.

Apparently this is a bootcamp specific problem.

This line "I'm running Sygate Personal Firewall, ProcessGuard, SnoopFree and AVG. Virus scan detects nothing. It's a macbook pro that I'm running windows on." gives it away. Probly not virus related with how you are protected...

Thanks for posting the fix - I'm sure it will help other mac/bootcamp users if this problem resurfaces down the line

kurosh;

under the utilities directory, open up the terminal app and type:

top

then hit enter.

this will show you, in descending order of impact, the applications currently running and resources they are using.

whoops.. nm, see now this is resolved.

regardless, those terminal windows allow you to interact directly with your operating system, become familiar with them, they will serve you well.
