Haiti?
Has anybody been there?
This sounds idiotic, but bear with me. American Airlines flies from Atlanta (where I live) to Port au Prince (MIA layover), and I've seen tickets as low as $300 round trip. Once there, they have cheap resorts (since tourism has pretty much tanked) with casinos (no poker, I assume), as well as some of the world's best beaches and some tall mountains (8,000'+). I am somewhat interested in Port au Prince (I would take a well-planned, unambitious walk through the center city), but more excited about Jacmel, a small port town on the south coast, 20mi from PAP, that is laid back, supposedly safe, and full of French architecture. How the hell would I get there, though? I've been to various third world countries before and understand the procautions to take, but I assume Haiti would be exceptional in that regard. Just how difficult would it be to spend time there? Thanks in advance |
