These companies that they "pump and dump", are they real companies? I have ran some of the symbols through a stockscreener and hadn't found them meaning they must have been removed. And what is the best way to identify a scam like "pump and dump"?

yes OTC penny stocks. this was years ago so they don't exist anymore.
