btw - if you plan on investing in an index fund regularly anyway, you're better off putting all that money in whatever fund and instead of contributing to it, paying off the loan.

I am a sucker for anyone wanting to invest in a Roth because they are the greatest investment vehicle for young people. I guess you could run some numbers and see what your EV is given you can write off the interest and you gain tax free. It would be positivie for sure. If OP can afford the payments (which are not much), this is a wise move. I assume he/she is young and most people dont feel they need to invest in their retirement when young for some reason. OP will be very happy he did that at retirement age if he decides to. I love my Roth!

Thanks for all your help guys. I will likely put it in an index through Vanguard and pay the loan off. I like the ROTH idea too and will look into that.
