Default A8s against a LAG

good game, mid stakes. villian is a long time LAG who i have played with a lot under an old handle. likes to 3bet preflop with very questionable hands (ATo to UTG raiser etc) and will pound postflop with draws and/or if he smells blood.

i open A8s in LMP and he calls in the BB. his range here is pretty wide.

flop is 499 rainbow and i get check raised.

turn is a 2nd diamond, low card...perhaps a 3 or 6...

he bets, i raise (i am meh about this and think there is some merit in calling both big streets) he calls. fwiw i dont think he 3 bags anything but a 9 (or 44) here. i could be wrong, but he has played this game for a while and a raise by villian (me) here is usually at least an overpair.

river is ace, 3rd diamond and i get check raised and call.

i got pounded today in like 20 minutes of play and wasn't happy with how i played. that coupled with my ongoing rustiness = time to take a walk

Does this guy ever fold a pair on the turn? The LAGs online I play against never do. Your turn raise is therefore spewy in the abscence of other information.

You are on your own at the river.

id dont know what the turn raise accomplishes. id proly fold the turn fairly often. he knows you are taking ace high to sd on that flop.

actually turn card matters a lot. if its greater than a 4 then you pick up some outs a lot.

checked, it was a 7.

still, i am not sure why i raised turn really. maybe it was semi tilt in that i was getting pounded the second i sat down on all tables.

i feel like sometimes i am too stubborn in HU spots, other times i feel like WTF i get popped every hand.

Victor's posts are subtly excellent here and I agree with them.
