If you plan on check folding the river, I don't really understand why you 3 bet the flop or bet the turn.

Check calling the river is horrible as you already mentioned. Given the way you played the hand, I bet the river too. People have already said that you would not get paid off by hands you beat, but given your previous history with this player I think he would pay you off with a wide range of hands.

The turn bet wasnt a bluff.

It was a "if you have a better hand, we're going to be putting one bet in anyways, so i might as well prevent you from taking a free card if you're behind and potentially get you to fold if you've got a weak ace".

The flop 3bet is bad against the kind of person who limps on the button. They generally arent thinking in terms of getting other people to fold. So when they raise the flop, they're doing it because they think they have a better hand - and you better believe it's going to showdown 9 times out of 10.

The pot is too small to put that kind of action in. Call and check/fold the turn.

Bet the river. He pays off with a bunch of hands you beat.

I don't see how you can fold this river in a HU situation where villain has shown only marginal strength on the flop and a previous propensity to make bad calls.

You 3 bet a gut shot flop, got bet/called on a turn you hit and now figure a ch/f is right. I think joker and drbk are right.

This is one of those live hands where you strangely know where you're at and it seems real strange to those reading it here. Then again, putting in that kind of action and then folding for 1 bet doesn't make a lot of sense.
