Am I Wrong
I'm playing in a 1/2NL game at the Mandalay Bay. Its pretty late on a Friday night and the game has been pretty loose and fun and I'm sitting on about $150 when this situation comes up..
It fold around to me and I raise from the CO to $12 with J10s and am called by a guy in the small blind. The flop comes down 3 4 9 rainbow and he checks to me. I C-bet $15 into the pot and he thinks for a couple seconds and announces that he's all-in. Well at this point I know I'm not continuing with the hand any further but am going to give it a moment of thought before I muck. But before I muck my cards and concede the pot the dealer continues to deal out the hand as if I had made the call and am all-in. Before I am able to say anything I see a 10 come off on the turn and 2 on the river and the dealer asks us to show our hands. At this point I am really confused about what to do in this situation and sheepishly flip over my J10 thinking I might just have the best hand and the SB sure enough shows AQ winning me the hand. The dealer then asks me for my chips to count and I quietly push them forward, avoiding eye contact with the SB. Now nowhere during this hand did I announce a call but at the same time nobody said anything, not even the SB. Not the biggest pot, but am I wrong in this spot or is it the dealer's error and SB who assumed I made the call because the dealer did. I know that had I not paired the board with the 10 I would have very well made an issue about the hand and gotten the floor involved. thoughts? |

Re: Am I Wrong
This is a tough one.
The honest thing to do would be to give it back, IF you thought you would have been able to successfully convince the floor that you didn't intend to call. If you don't believe that that was going to fly, you're entitled to the money. I think you just keep it and move on. Let the other guy say something, and tell the truth if the floor asks what happened. |

You won a pot you weren't entitled to and you should have said something. The correct thing to do would be to stop the dealer as soon as you saw the turn come out, and tell him that you never said call. What would you have done if your opponent turned over a set of 4s on the end? |

Re: Am I Wrong
I would be immoral to take issue if you didn't win but not to when you win. Is that the kind of reputation you want at the poker table?

Well at this point I know I'm not continuing with the hand any further but am going to give it a moment of thought before I muck. But before I muck my cards and concede the pot [/ QUOTE ] I'm wondering if somewhere in here you made some kind of sub-concious hand-gesture that they mistook as an all-in or a call or something. I see these people fiddling with their chips or hands all the time completely not realizing that they look like they are indicating a check. Just the simplest little wave of the cards towards the dealer right before you were about to muck them could have been misconstrued as a call. I mean, it's pretty strange that even your opponent seemed to think you had called as well. For this situation, I don't think it's right to freeroll here. Taking the chips if you won but then getting the floor involved if you lost. Should have stopped and said that you never called and you were about to fold...here's your $12. It's good poker-karma!! |

Re: Am I Wrong
Very bad karma on your part.
Find the guy and pay him back. |

Re: Am I Wrong
What were all the other players at the table doing at the time?
All players at the table (whether they are in the hand or not) have an ethical responsibility to alert the dealer or floor to any errors being made. This probably assumes that, in this instance, the error was obvious to all. Fen84, I think you're posting this because you want some clarification as to what your ethical responsibilities are. That's a fair thing to ask (and it's gutsy to come out into a public forum to admit and question it). But you're not the only one who has an ethical responsibility; so does everyone else at the table. |

Re: Am I Wrong
The correct thing to do would have been to stop the dealer as soon as they started to burn and turn. Nice angle shot tho, you can laugh about it all the way to the bank.
