Default Glucosamine

Pardon me if this has been discussed here, but I've been taking Glucosamine for a while to combat a knee recovering(hopefully) from Chondromalacia. Has anyone here had any success with glucosamine supplements(or any failure)? Any science oriented types that have read studies about this or looked into it at all? My glucosamine habit is getting expensive and the new pills I got are [censored] huge, so any feedback would be appreciated.

James

I took some fancy version of it with "joint fluid" when I had back pain and was throwing a ton during the winter.

I can't really say whether or not it made a difference, but nothing worse happened to me!

Are you referring to the stuff that comes with Chondroiton or something like that? That [censored] is expensive. I considered buying some.

My wife has a nutritional supplement store, so I know enough to be dangerous. My knees are also bad (some arthritis) and she's had me on the following for the past couple years. I'd recommend them all:

Glucosamine Sulfate (the brand I take, Nature's Purest)

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane, Nature's Purest also-a natural anti-inflammatory)

Nature's Purest is a UFC sponsor (see center of the ring in some matches).

Flax seed oil (natural, Barlean's makes it)--it truly is great for the body (skin, hair, joints).

Since I've been on these products, my need for ibuprofen to run/play basketball is almost nil. Even just regular getting around is better. I've started working my legs mores and stretching which of course has helped further.

You can find Glucosamine from many manufacturers. I've been told by my wife that they are all blended differently which affects the absorption by the body.

My recs re: cost. Buy in bulk (&/or buy from my wife, orders over a certain size get free shipping [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]).

Why is everyone talking about how expensive this is? At Wal-Mart you can get a month's supply for like $20. Or are you guys taking a special brand?

Glucosamine is combined with other [censored], which makes it expensive. The Chondroiton is expensive, apparently.
