Exec summary please.

Nutt likes to be loved.

There is a lot of hate for Nutt among the fan base since the Mustain/Gus/email/texting/FOI snafu.

In a similar vein, how about Mike Price to WSU?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm torn on this.

Price recruits well, and he built us up to a nice spot. However, in game he was the guy who developed the retardo offense that we've run forever and made some really questionable playcalls. I'd rather start over and just move in a different direction.

As I mentioned before, the biggest key here is that Rosenbach and Levenseller need to go, they're horrible play callers and talent evaluators and hurt the program a ton in the past few years.

I think damaniac was asking what the summary of the "Mustain/Gus/email/texting/FOI snafu" was.

I didn't follow the story too closely, but Gus Malzahn was some legendary high school coach who coached Mustain and a couple of other players at some high school in Arkansas -- the high school is called Springfield or something and is in North Arkansas (the fact that it's in North Arkansas matters later).

Nutt really wanted Mustain to come play for him at Arkansas, but Mustain was concerned Nutt's offense wasn't sophisticated enough for him...or something. So Nutt brought along Mustain's high school coach (the aforementioned Malzahn) to become the offensive coordinator at Arkansas, prompting Mustain and some of his teammates to commit to come to Arkansas to play for Nutt.

Fast forward to last year -- Mustain is named the starter after Arkansas gets trounced by USC in the first game of the season, and then Arkansas rattles off 8 straight wins. But Nutt never really lets Malzahn (the former high school coach now Arkansas OC) install 'his' offense, and he replaces Mustain with Casey Dick in the middle of this winning streak. So at the end of the season, Malzahn bolts to Tulsa, Mustain transfers to USC, etc. etc.

In the middle of all this during the season, Mustain got some emails from an anonymous "Nutt family friend" or booster or something claiming Mustain was gay and still breastfed from his mother and threw a lot of INTs and he should transfer. Somehow this email became public. I think Mustain forwarded it onto the coaching staff or something, and the coaching staff forwarded it onto one of their wives, and one of the wives forwarded it onto Nutt's wife, and Nutt's wife wrote something like "lolz this email is hilarious", and all of this became public. Some [censored] like that.

Arkansas fans start clamoring for the public release of more emails exchanged between Mustain and this booster. Eventually, some fan sues Nutt or the University for the public release of all of Nutt's University-issued phone text-message records to see if the coaches have had any contact with this mysterious family friend and booster. I guess because Nutt is a state employee and those records can be made public.

Anyway, the records show that Nutt sent lots of text messages to this booster (who was sending the harassing email to Mustain). However, in addition to the discovery that Nutt was texting/had a connection to this booster who was sending nasty emails to Mustain, it was discovered from the release of his cell phone records that Nutt, a married man, is/was ostensibly plowing some TV news woman (not his wife) from Texas. It was also discovered Nutt had been calling the University of Miami and North Carolina State and perhaps elsewhere -- apparently inquiring about their job openings in the last offseason. It was also revealed Nutt intended on replacing Malzahn, the offensive coordinator, long before Malzahn bolted for Tulsa -- giving credence to the theory that Nutt only hired Malzahn so he could secure the commitments of Mustain & co. and had no intention of giving him any actual coaching duties.

The "haters from the North" thing was Nutt's wife, apparently in denial about the affair between Nutt and the anchorwoman, who wrote a letter claiming that the "armies of haters from the North", ie., Springfield high school and their boosters, were trying to ruin her husband's reputation, in retaliation for benching Mustain or marginalizing Malzahn or whatever.

Yeah so I don't know if I got this all right, someone can jump in and correct any misinformation I just provided.

I've heard from two different sources now that Nutt wasn't fired, or asked to resign, and in fact turned down a two-year extension.

DVault,

That sounds pretty similar to what I recall. There's more stuff with Mustain and others folks getting involved and bitching to Nutt and generally acting like idiot soccer moms.

Nutt made the right decision. I think he's a great coach and his stock was up after the LSU win. He can start fresh at Ole Miss with a new contract. I would not have wanted to come back to Arky without DMac given the divided fanbase. Good split for both parties.

Chan Gailey of Georgia Tech was reportedly fired. I'm kinda surprised by this because He was 44-32 with 6 bowl games in a row. They are expecting to do better?

How could tOSU fire John Cooper after going 111-43-4?

[/ QUOTE ]

Cooper was fired because he said the OSU v Michigan game was "just another game"....not embracing that rivalry will get you fired

I would like to see Kiffman from the Raiders come back to college football, I think he's better suited for the college game and could impliment the system he learned at USC somewhere like Arkansas, Michigan, or even Ga Tech

Very good DVaut1.

The town is Springdale.

The emailer was Teresa Pruitt, who is a physical therapist who had worked on Nutt's brother, was a booster with close family ties to the Nutts and had sideline privileges at games.

The TV anchor was from Fort Smith, just over the hills from Fayetteville.

The original Freedom of Information Act request was to see, in Nixonesque fashion, 'what Nutt knew and when he knew it' regarding that email. The texting stuff came out as a side issue as you posted.

The email:

Hello Mr. Interception King:

Are you having a good morning? I’m sure you are since your precious name is in the paper again. Why in the Starkville did you come to Arkansas? I’ve been a Hog fan since birth, and a season ticket holder since 1985, and my parents were before that. Who in the Starkville do you think you are? Do you really think because you just walked onto campus that you need to be the starting QB? Competition scares the crap out of you doesn’t it little boy? This is the SEC for goodness sakes, and by watching you attempting to read defenses in the SEC, it is beyond evident that you were nowhere ready. Your completion to interception ratio was a joke, and you have zero leadership abilities. This isn’t Springdale High School anymore, and you need to take your letter jacket off and realize that. This is the real world. Yes, you did win 8 games as a starter, but you were only starting at that point because Casey Dick was hurt. In winning those 8 games, you need to go back to the film room and see that the main reason those games were won was because of McFadden, Jones, the offensive line, and the play of the defense. You did hand the ball off pretty well. You also need to buy Marcus Monk some lunch for saving you another interception against Auburn since the ball was so underthrown. Every once in a blue moon you would throw a touchdown pass, but usually after 3 interceptions. I’m sure you have the talent to become an outstanding QB on the collegiate level, but I hope that it’s not at Arkansas. You can win the Heisman for all I care, but please not as a Hog. Please transfer. All you’ve been since you walked onto campus is a cancer, and your mother is no exception.

You called Coach Nutt a “dork” in your article. Amazing. You know, I was sitting with a large group of people watching your interview that was aired on Game Day before the Tennessee game, you know, the interview where you had on those glasses that made you look like a [censored]? I’m sure you remember. Anyhow, everyone in that room started laughing, calling you the dork. Why is it that you came to Arkansas again? Was it so your mommie could be close by to change your diaper, or was it because you thought having your lover Gus on the sideline would make playing in the SEC easier? What a joke! Gus can’t even adjust to the speed of the game in the SEC. Do you think Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame would be putting up with your bull crap? God, do I ever wish you would have gone to Notre Dame. Too bad I’m not Coach Nutt today. If so, I’d be having Tim Cheney sew lace around your jock straps, but that would be after I let you hang out face to face in a private meeting with the offensive and defensive lineman – I think I’d even throw Butu in for the meeting. Did I mention that I want you to transfer? Helen Keller could read defenses in the SEC better than you.

Well, I’ve wasted enough time on you today. I’m sure it’s time for your breast feeding. Did I mention that I want you to transfer. The next time you think you and your girls are bigger than any one program – you better think again. I would love for you to be able to have a lengthy conversation with Chris Simms, former QB with the Texas Longhorns. He arrived on campus his freshman year in a limo thinking he was the next All Everything, was a smart ass to his coaches, was selfish, pouty, and the prime example of what a “team” player is not. His teammates couldn’t stand him, the fans grew to hate him, and he never won a championship. He was finally benched for a QB that had won the Big 12 player of the year award the year before. You see, he walked onto campus thinking the starting position should be handed to him without competition, and it was. He didn’t bring it to practice everyday, he was quoted in newspapers showing his lack of character, he blamed everyone else when HE had a bad game….Sound familiar? He never EARNED the respect of his teammates, coaches, fans, etc…He too was a spoiled brat. He was nicknamed by everyone “The Golden Child” because that’s what HE thought he was. Funny how the smaller, more competitive QB named Major Applewhite, with less credentials, came to lead them to a Big 12 Championship. Funny how that works isn’t it?

Grow up little boy. Oh, by the way, did I mention that I want you to transfer?

Teresa

A real mess and difficult to Cliff Note imo. Really a good job doing it.

- A hater from Up North, FU Nutt have fun at Oxford and good riddance.

P.S. 'Starkville' is a reference to 'Hell' on the hater boards. CW
