Default Best place for broke college kids

Ok, it seems I've (for whatever reason, "Hey you like gambling you should know about Las Vegas" "Err...what?") been tasked with planning a bachlor party for my friend and our group (6 people) in Mid-March.

I'm currently working the travel sites (Travelocity, Priceline, etc) but I was hoping the collective knowledge of 2+2 and its degenerate/broke underbelly can suggest some good places to stay, places to visit, etc.

Details: 6 people, looking to stay in early march for 5 days, probably over a weekend. Most are tight-asses. I'll be looking to gamble while the others are likely looking for clubs (both strip and non).

Any help would be greatly appriciated (and likely save my ass).

That is a tough time. NCAA basketball and spring break will drive up the price of everything.

That was my thinking also, but right now, as per the sites I'm looking at we can get Fri to Weds (leave afternoon come back eve.) as low as ~$500/person. The issue I have is we're talking staying downtown or at places like comfort inn.

I'm looking for some wisdom from locals/frequent travelers as to the safety of these places as well as proximity to things I'll want (I'm a 1/2-2/5NL player and I know those are spread most places).

Thanks for those links. That's ~10 sites I have now, hopefully I can figure something out.

Edit: first point of interest, anyone have any opinions/exp. with the El Cortez. I realize that most of the hotels I'll be talking about are crappy, so that's not going to be a shock, but keeping in mind we're reasonably young (i.e. not as concerned with comfort as we are stuffing 5-6 guys in a room), anyone have any thoughts?

Might try www.travelaxe.com.

It searches many different travel websites at once, and can save you time.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but when I cheap in Vegas I stay at the Imperial Palace. It's close to plenty of good 1/2-5/10 NL games and near all the party crap your buddies are interested in.

Have fun!

Travel Axe
Sidestep
Kayak
vegas.com
i4vegas
Expedia
Travelocity

Downtown

Pros: Cheap, 1-2NL available at Binnions, GN, Plaza, and maybe El Cortez and Fitzgeralds. Cheap drinks...really cheap...like 1/3 the price of the strip. Cheap gambling with lots of $5 BJ. Lots of DD BJ. El Cortez even has 3:2 pay single deck BJ. Craps tables as low as $3 at Golden Gate. Cheap food too. And you may still be able to sneak into the pool at GN. El Cortez tower rooms are renovated and nice. They are small though and 5-6 of you in a room will be a sausage fest. The pavilion rooms and the vintage rooms are bad.

Cons: Few hot chicks. Expensive to cab to the strip. Crack ho's surround the El Cortez, limited activities other than pool at GN, drinking, and eating. No nightclubs.

Strip

Consider Casino Royale. Its a small dumpy casino that smells but supposedly the rooms are above average, renovated, and clean. Its mid strip between Venetian and Harrahs. You probably have to book through them. The downfall is that everything on the strip is expensive. The upside is CR is probably about the cheapest area there is on the strip. Cheap food options include McDonalds, Subway, Chipotle, midnight specials at BC, Canters Deli, and others. Walking distance from everything great in Vegas. Also a pretty quick cab ride to Spearmint Rhino, hands down the best strip club in Vegas. Beware...a Michelob at CR is $1. At Venetian its like $8. Alcohol prices on the strip are really attrocious. By way of contrast, a 54 oz football of beer at Golden Gate downtown is $6.

As much as I like Downtown, I don't think it would be the spot for a bach party? It does have cheap gambling for the tighties.

I would lean towards a cheap place off in the middle of nowhere and rent a car (big vehicle so can fit everyone, and only one designated driver). You could get something pretty nice and fun, like, I dunno, a hummer or something? Car rentals are pretty cheap in Vegas. Look around on fatwallet.com forums or something and see if you can get an upgrade code for free.

With a car, you can go to the strip, go downtown for cheap gambling (park at Binions) and go to the strip club.

Also, if you want a cheap, decent downtown hotel, I've stayed at the plaza several times and it's OK. Slipping the check in at the desk a $20 would get you a decent upgrade, because I've done it with a $10 twice and gotten upgraded. That said, I don't think they even have any big suites, although the upper ones have a wet bar and stuff.

Thanks for the help guys, you keyed on some things I was going to ask about. First, cheap gambling will be big. Alot of them are down for gambling but we're talking $5 blackjack and the like. Also, with regards to renting a car, this was my first though (as I have no idea about shuttles or buses) and I'm a life nit so I rarely drink (DD taken care of).

Thanks for the links, now I'm just worried I almost have too much information to choose from
