Default Thoughts on new Dell laptop

I am looking into buying a new Inspiron 1720 for poker and college. I want the best computer for the lowest price (under $1800). What do you guys think?

PROCESSOR - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB
cache)

OPERATING SYSTEM - Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition

DISPLAY - High Resolution, glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1920 x 1200)

VIDEO CARD - 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT

MEMORY - 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz

HARD DRIVE - Speed: 160GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)

OPTICAL DRIVE - CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)

WIRELESS NETWORK CARDS - Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card

INTEGRATED WEBCAM - Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam

BATTERY OPTIONS - 85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)

SOUND OPTIONS - Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition

I would like to use it for PAHUD, 12 Tabling, PT, music, internet surfing, and some games. Am I buying anything that is too slow/unnecessary?

Whats the weight on laptop? If your going to be traveling with it back and forth from school it's a PITA to lug around a 15 pound laptop

I hate my Dell. Would never buy again. HP, Compel, Asus - anything but a dell.

There should be a notebook review forum out there somewhere - I don't feel like searching, but that's where you should read up.

Basically, [censored] Dell

I have the 2 year old version of this notebook, and it still works fine and is a good travel poker notebook.

I have about 9 laptops.

The best is the MacBook, and behind that is the Toshiba. Dells and Gateways have weird chipset issues that rear their heads in bizarre places (running virtual PC, for instance - and it's not the dual core bug for which there is actually a fix).

HPs and Compaqs are OK, but I've had them die randomly at times. These aren't bad since you can get them at costco and return them fairly liberally.

My suggestion would be to go in to Costco and spend like $1300 on the cheapest thing with a dedicated video card and 1440x900 res. Do not buy a 17" laptop. If it's a desktop replacement and will never move, then just buy a desktop. If it's portable at all, then get something smaller. They're just too big to be very portable at all, and you'll hate it after a bit.

I'm waiting for a sub-15" macbook pro with a solid state hard drive before I replace my laptop, so that might get you some information as to what I look for in them.
