Default 40/80 live. Raised on turn by a passive player...

Location: Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, CA
Stakes: $40/$80
Players: I’m a bit disenchanted with my no-limit game and it wasn’t playing big. I see a 3 or 4 handed $40/$80 limit game (with walkers) that I thought I could exploit after scouting the action. In addition, I saw mikel playing and decided to see how he played (made some astounding plays, I’ll say). The game was pretty good to start, and it got to 6 handed by this point several hours later (mikel had left by that point).

Principal Players:

HJ – Loose passive player. Plays somewhat scared. He will raise his good hands pre-flop, but does a ton of limping.

Button – Loose aggressive: Pre-flop raising range is high. Loves to bet with no hand. Is destined to go broke.

BB – I am here. Loosened image due to some casual pre-flop raises.

Preflop action: (1.5 small bets, 6 players)

HJ limps, Button raises, I see K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and call.

Flop action: (6.5 small bets, 3 players): K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I check, HJ checks, Button bets, I raise, HJ cold calls, Button mumbles, shows his cards to his neighbor and says “would you call with this?” and folds.

Turn action: (5.75 big bets , 2 players) :Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I bet and HJ raises. I ???. FWIW, I didn’t put him on AJ since he would have raised it pre-flop. Same goes with KQ.

Comments appreciated. Results to come.

Garland

I'm assuming you were in the small blind... I'd fold preflop. Even 6-handed. K7 isn't quite enough hand for me.

Flop is good, and I'd call down the turn raise even though it doesn't look promising for you. He may have QT enough here, or possible some sort of hand like a pair and a diamond/straight draw (like Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]). If the river is super ugly and he bets again, you can find a fold, but I'm not ready to fold yet.

BB! 6.5 small bets, not 7 small bets on the flop is a clue . Still ok pre-flop call?

No way he has a draw here. Monster or not. Way too passive.

From the BB it's fine. Thanks for changing the original post.

Don't 3b cause he'll cap J9 (maybe sets too), and you have to call bc of J9. So the value you lose against QT is outweighed. Call down.

Call down. Its safe the rule out a semi bluff and KJ, right? In that case you're about a 60-40 dog to a range of possible 2 pairs, 77 and J9. If he can have KJ its a little closer to 55-45 in his favor. Another problem is that if you 3 bet, you have to call a cap for your 4 outs.

I think Garland is considering folding, not 3-betting.

Too many 2 pair he beats to even consider it.

I think he has exactly Q-10 of diamonds... REJACK him... pray for a black wheel card on the river :-)

Against the player you describe I'd probably call it down.
