What type of strategy should i have for this blind structure where we start off very deep, but in the 13 hours of day 1 the starting stack goes from 600BB to 5BB?

also what reading should i do? (i have most of the 2+2 books, and a few other tournament and tells books)

The buyin is ZAR30,000 (for a package including accomodation and meals, about R20k will go to the prizepool), 120 players are expected, and the payouts are expected to be (US$1 = R7):

1st – R1,030,000
2nd – R280,000
3rd – R230,000
4th – R180,000
5th - R130,000
6th – R120,000
7th – R110,000
8th – R100,000
9th – R90,000
10th – R80,000

All comments will be appreciated

First of all, the average stack will probably be atleast 30xBB by the end of day 1 due to bustouts.

When you are playing with 600xBB (or 200xBB), position is more important and suited connectors and pps are more valuable. Unsuited high cards or less valuable. You generally should not raise a bunch of limpers with AQo in the blinds. You probably can/should make larger than normal raises, since they are likely to be called. Obviously, with deep money, there is plenty of opportunity to outplay people and win big pots from people overplaying top pair or whatever. Doyle Brunson's chapter in Super System is good for deep money play.

You want to be familiar with the players at your table and their styles. Usually, there will be some people who are just donks and some players who kind of know what they are doing but are weak/tight and readable. You want to take advantage of these. You want to avoid the better players as much as possible, but if someone is playing overaggressive there are ways to take advantage of this also. Lindgren's Making the Final Table describes how to play the players and situations in a major tournament.

As far as books, obviously HOH, TPFAP, and NLHTP are worth reading.

People tend to play cautiously in live tournaments, so there should be a lot of opportunities to steal pots later on, but be careful when someone who is not a known LAG shows strength.

It is a long day, so try to keep your concentration. I busted out of both major tournaments I played in late in day 1.
