I think Brother Mouzone is probably the worst character on the show.

I agree, everyone else, even Omar, seem to be mostly grounded in reality, but a bow tied, literary minded hitman seems out of place in Baltimore.

When does stuff start happening in the wire? I'm on the 5th episode and nothing is going on. Does it get better? Is season 1 really slow?

Pretend its an epic novel. You have to get past the first few chapters before it envelops you. You're right at the point, though, where you'll either become a fan or decide it's not your style. Episode 6 or so is where things start to kick off.

I guess it's not my style, I'll finish the season I think, but I just finished ep 10 and I don't think it's brought any sort of excitement or emotion from me at any point. There's not even really anything that I'm curious about how it's going to end either. What's the attraction to this show? It's a serious question btw, I'm not trying to just rip on it. Don't just say "it's awesome" either because that doesn't tell me anything.

I can see where you are coming from because I was very disappointed by season 1 until the end. The show is so good because of the characters. As the show progresses and you learn more about them you see how they are all trying to do what is wrong or reach the means while the system works against them. It's satisfying when they go against the system and take a stand to do the right thing. I am trying to think of a good example from season 1, and one of my favorite scenes is when D yells "Where's Wallace?" The greatness of the show is in the characters. The cops are really stylized, cool, and funny. While the criminals are humorous buffoons or bad asses. For the most part the acting is amazing. I'll admit the show is a bit slow at times, but there are so many great scenes that make the show worth it.

I don't remember what Ep it was, but I was completely hooked after the scene where agent Fitzhugh tells McNulty that Daniels is dirty. That is the best demarkation line I can think of for the show.

Klompy,

The Wire is about more than what you see on screen, it is a representation of America and (the death of?) the American Dream. The show is rife with symbolism, has wonderful characters, flawless writing, and is shot in a way that Baltimore (!) looks glamorous. If you've made it all the way through Episode 10, and still can't get into it, I'm not sure what to tell you.

I have only watched the first season, but The Wire is an amazing show. Some of these guys are incredible actors. The ones who I think are the best are Omar, D and the young black kid who sits on the couch and walked away from the prison in the middle of the first season.

For you I would suggest some pantsuits, perhaps muted in color, something to offset Detective Moreland's pinstripe lawyerly affectations and the brash tweedy impertinence of Detective Freamon.
