Default Newspaper coupons and such......

Quite surprised at the number of individuals that do not use newpaper coupons and related discounted material such as this(entertainment discount book, mailbox coupons, etc., etc.).

It is amazing the amount of money one can save over a month, year, and lifetime by using coupons.

Personaly, save somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200-2400 a year by doing such.

Do many here use coupons?

A fundamental key here is to not use coupons for things that you would not ordinarily purchase.

Very well said.

I use coupons for grocery shopping. I also have the benefit of 4 large grocery chains within 10 minutes of my home, so I can take advantage of weekly specials....I'd guesstimate annual savings for my family's grocery bill to easily be around $1,300

Yup, take the money saved and invest it for 30 years and you have a tidy sum "saved" up.

Does anyone know how to get signed up for the coupons that come in the mail? We get valpak at my parent's house but I want to sign up for my apartment. Also, any other good coupon sources? Fishhead what do you use?

For one, I get the ENTERTAINMENT book for my city.........it saves me hundreds yearly.

Secondly, newspaper coupons.

Those are my main two............plus picking up freebies on the internet.

I'm a grinder through and through,

I used to be on the lookout for coupons but have basically stopped. Most coupons are for brand name products that are over-priced to make up for the huge marketing budgets of the big manufacturers. I find I save more by purchasing seasonal produce that is on sale, frozen generic veggies when they are not, cuts of meat and fish in bulk when they are on sale and avoiding over-priced toiletries. Plain ole dried beans, rice and pasta go a long way for very little money, and if prepared the right way, beat the pants off of pre-packaged, marked-up good.

My sister-in-law used to do some kind of coupon trading over the internet. Seems to me she was able to convert them to cash some way. She was very organized, with a filing system and everything. Something like $1000/yr for the hobby. I think it was a lot of work though.
