Default Speculation about Fedor Emelianenko

http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showthread.php?t=564628

According to the thread, Fedor has said that he will be fighting for Pride/UFC (he referred to in Russian as one promotion with unified rules).

He's immediate plans are to compete in the Combat Sambo World Championships and film a movie with Van Damme.

unified rules? unless NSAC budged (which i doubt), stomps/knees to the head aren't going to be allowed in PRIDE either?

Yup. Until NSAC changes, Pride will be stomp/knee free and elbows will be allowed. Dana White has said so. Pride will keep the ring, but otherwise be the same rules as the current UFC.

This has been discussed ad nauseam on the sherdog boards for awhile, unfortunately. Dana White has come out and said that the sport can't be taken seriously if the rules aren't the same. I think there's some merit in that. Dana really wants NSAC to allow knees to the head at some point, but doesn't care for soccer kicks/stomps (I could care less as well).

i see..i haven't been following mma on a day to day basis since the merge, sherdog and other places got unbearable.

too bad on the rule changes. i dont see how unified rules are necessary, but ring vs. cage is ignored

Yeah, I agree on ring/cage. On one hand I kind of like the AL/DH:NL/pitcher's hit kind of thing that separates the organizations. Logically though, it doesn't make sense.
