T7 suited CO (right of button). This is a sat to the 400k stars game, top4 go. 7 left. I couldn't quite post and fold in, but almost.
Looking to pick up chips as a strategy. 7 people left, i'm 3rd in chips with 18k. 25k big stack is enemy. He's been calling basically every steal attempt. I c-bet and got folds once, but 3 times terrible flops hit and he bet me off turn. He views me as nitty/passive, i think. I hve been fairly passive due to poor cards. I make it 4bb at button. He calls button as he always does, blinds fold. Flop is 89T suited clubs, (I have diamonds, so TP bad kicker, ignorant OE st8 draw). 3k pot at this point. I've got 15k left. I figure I'm ahead, but don't want him to draw out if he has a diamond in the hand. I'm OOP so I figure a C/R here is best on the scary board, and that he is betting me off my hands. I'm looking to get the fold here, obviously, but I think I'm easily ahead of his range. He goes 2k on 3k pot, I c/r to 11k showing I'm pot committed (less 4k left). I think this is stronger than the "go away" all in. Comments? |

I'm not a big fan of the 4xBB raise from the CO. IMO, this big stack probably isn't playing optimal strategy for a sat.
Anyhow, if this were a freezeout I think your line is fine (except for leaving 4K behind; that screams of scared to go out to me). But, because it is a sat (and I don't play them much) I'm not sure. Sherman |

what is a good raise with a hand you are looking to get folds with?
Or are you saying to fold this, wait for top 20% and get that tournament chip? I'm assuming that's what 'freezout' means. |

No no. By freezeout I meant regular MTT. It was actually bad use of terminology. A freezeout means when you go out...you're out (i.e. not a rebuy).
Anyhow, with your stack size and the apparent blinds (not sure exactly what they are b/c you didn't post them) I'd raise 2.5-3xBB. That is often good enough to take it down (meaning just as likely to take it down as 4xBB) on the satellite bubble. I certainly don't raise more when I want to get folds. That would be a huge leak IMO. |

I think that this is very bad.
Blinds are small and you don't need to accumulate all of the chips, you just need to survive at an aggro table. Fold preflop. |

What is bad? Everything.
-Playing the hand pf. -The 4bb raise instead of a 3 bb raise -Putting himself in a position to stack off on the satellite bubble in a hand where he was against a loose player who had at the very least 30% equity in the pot if he did not have the hero dominated (I wouldn't mind this situation in a regular MTT but not a satellite) -Check-Raising and leaving a laughable 4k behind... -Playing this cheese pf with a loose button, did I say that twice? [/ QUOTE ] There was 3k in the pot on the flop. If the hero raised 4bbs that means that there was 9.5bbs in the pot on the flop. Therefore blinds were 150/300. Of course, it would have been nice if he included them in the OP. He should have also included the fact that he had 16,000 to start the hand |

Okay. With that many BBs, we don't really need to be raising here. Fold preflop.
