Blackjack basic strategy - comments from other players at table
I was playing blackjack and I had a 12 with the dealer up being a 3. I signaled I wanted to hit and the dealer asked if I was sure and the other players said don't hit it. I said the basic strategy card says to hit, they said they know what the card says but don't hit because the dealer could break anyway. Then one of the players asked if I was going to cover everyone's bets if I got a ten and took away the dealer's bust card (I thought to myself WTF!).
I know players get mad if lose a hand because of players "who don't know how to play", but I get frustrated when they aren't correct in their knowledge of BS in the first place. Or they do know what the correct move is, but want you to deviate from it. I don't know to do in those situations, except to say "I always play by Basic Strategy rules." I really don't wan t to get into statistical discussions. I'm just there to have a little fun, look at the cocktail waitresses, and have a few drinks, but the comments from other players got to me the last time I went. What response should I give, if any, to these other players when they get upset? |

take your hit like you want. Ask the other guy if you stand if he'll pay for your bet if you lose. That oughta shut him up. Also ask him if they'll give you all their money if you hit and take a card that would have made a hand for the dealer.

1st response
"I hate money" 2nd response to further criticism "Didn't I already tell you to shut the [censored] up?" |

Tell them you've got a hunch.
There's nothing wrong with everyone at the table thinking you're a moron. If you actually do take a bust card -- tell them they were right, and that you will try to listen to them in the future. Ask them what books they've read about the game -- and try to sound impressed as you say "Wow!". Ask them if it's really advantageous to split Aces and 10's. When they say not to split tens -- tell them you'll think about it. They're giving you free cover. |

[/ QUOTE ] "Are you all going to pay me if my hit causes the dealer to bust?" "You do realize it evens out in the end, right?" "Kill yourself." "Do you want to trade seats?" (If yes, trade seats and nag her the rest of the night when she takes the dealer's bust card. If no, tell her to mind her own [censored] business.) "Hit me." Say whatever you want, just make sure to hit 12v3 and ignore the idiots. |

Just tell them to shut the F up, I love when other players talk you out of mathematically correct strategy becuase of speculation.
Speaking of sweet blackjack strategy, the other night I saw a guy hitting 16 on 3 many a time for large amounts of money, awesomeeee. |

Re: Blackjack basic strategy - comments from other players at table
One time I was playing with a couple buddies and we were bullshitting with this drunk dude who was just there to have fun and blow some cash. He did not follow any resemblance of basic strategy, but my guess is that he was a reasonably intelligent person. After one hand, he spontaneously leaned over and was like, "hey, watch me go [censored] up this other table". And he moved over to the last to act seat and proceeded to take a bunch of ridiculous hits until a bust card or whatever came up. This made absolutely no sense, but we were drunk enough that it was hilarious. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the reaction of the other players at that table. Good times!
