I worked at a Boston Market and we never [censored] with anyone's food, but I also worked at a nice sit down place(perhaps even meeting mosdef's "average") and we definitely did.

This one person put a wood chip they had pried out from their table in their salad in an attempt to get free food, so the next order that got run in we absolutely destroyed(not with contamination, but we prepared it very poorly). And then it turns out that wasn't their replacement food. Oh well. Some guy who ordered this weird buttery quiche thing 9 years ago, I'm sorry.

I think anyone who can do the 'count up' method would also be smart enough to calculate the change in their head. But, like you said, maybe not.
