Default Cab fares going up in Vegas

Starting June 1st, just in time for the WSOP.

Just saw on the news that they are adding a .20/mile surcharge for gas.

Might not look like much for the ballas, but that [censored] adds up, quick.

Wow. Cab prices are already much higher than NYC, the drivers make much more in Vegas than they do in NY.

This is why I love Reno. Costs half the amount there for a cab as it does here. And they drive better from my experience with a dozen or so cab rides there vs here.

They upped cab prices in New York, also. A cab from 43rd and 5th to Washington Sq. Park last Saturday in traffic cost me exactly $20, which is ridiculous. At least we have the subway.

WTH? 20cents a mile? Fine, gas prices have gone up $1/gal. Do the cabs get 5 miles per gallon? They can justify 5 cents a mile because of gas prices, not 20 cents. If they're gonna hike fares, fine, gouge us. But don't come up with obvious lies to excuse it.

You ever see the way cabbies slam that gas peddle around here? Wouldn't surprise me if they get <15mpg with those cars here.

Just for comparison.... could you tell us what the new mileage rate IS, instead of just how much it went up? (I am presuming it's a fixed rate for all companies in town - most cities seem to have gone to that - though where I leave each company sets its own and they range from $2.80 to $3.50 a mile. Pays to know who to call.)

Lot of places have put fares up way more than they needed to to justify gas prices, though, so doesn't surprise me at all.

http://www.taxi.state.nv.us/FaresFees.htm says:

First 1/8th of a mile = $3.20
Each additional 1/8th = 0.25
Waiting time = $22.00 per hour
McCarran Airport pickup fee = $1.20

Guess that will make it 0.275 per eighth now?

So it's a 10% increase in the per-mile rate.

This sucks for locals whose rides are generaly much longer than tourists, but I bet your average vegas cab ride is less than 5 miles (even including airport rides) so thats less than a buck increase.

And last time I checked gas prices are up.
