Poker Dealers???
Is anyone a poker dealer in Southern California or Las Vegas, and if so how much do you make roughly in a year. The reason I ask is when I am done with school for one year I would like to deal and play cards full time for one year and see how it goes. If anyone has any useful information that would be greatly appreciated

I would be very suprised if anyone here wants to share how much they personally make. Go to the casino and count. Be aware that the dealers may have to toke some peopls depending on where they are working. |

Is anyone a poker dealer in Southern California or Las Vegas, [/ QUOTE ] Yes, lots of them here. [ QUOTE ] and if so how much do you make roughly in a year. [/ QUOTE ] You aren't going to get an answer on this. It's not really anyone's business but the dealer's. Lets just say, if you are lucky enough to even find a job, it's going to be an on call position filling in on grave yard a few times a month and a good dealer getting lots of hands out per hour can make a decent living. Nothing extreme, but liveable if it was a good steady full time position. -I didn't change anything, just made this post easier to read. |

Re: Poker Dealers???
I read recently that the dealers at Wynn just took a pay cut as a result of a new policy requiring tip sharing. Their estimated new income is about $90k.
Edit: After re-reading the article, it seems that "dealer" refers to table games. No mention of poker dealers..... |

Edit: After re-reading the article, it seems that "dealer" refers to table games. No mention of poker dealers..... [/ QUOTE ] Correct...they are refering to BJ, Craps, Baccarat, whatever. And the $90K is highly disputed. It was the Wynn executive spewing that figure, and he was trying to prove a point. Yes, if you worked lotsa overtime during the previous 12mo period which was particularly busy since Wynn was brand new, you mighta hit $90K. I was chatting with a former Wynn dealer, now Wynn floor, and he claimed he never made $90K as a dealer. And while he despises what Wynn is doing, he's not gonna say "no" to a cooshy floor position that now pays more, with a more stable income, and doing a job he considers easier. (He says he's a bit unpopular with some of the dealers for being one of those that jumped from dealing into flooring when this toke thievery happened.) If you head into poker dealing in Vegas expecting $90K I think you are going to be pretty disappointed. |

Re: Poker Dealers???
I agree. I was trying (unsucessfully) to address the OP's question. I thought it was also interesting to note that the article indicated that the dealers would be taking a $30k pay cut as a result of the new policy.

Edit: After re-reading the article, it seems that "dealer" refers to table games. No mention of poker dealers..... [/ QUOTE ] This is so far scewed from the truth it's insane. Wynn himself released the "income" numbers as to garner sympathy for his cause of stealing the dealers tips and giving them to salaried supervisors. The top number for dealers was in fact around 100k, but that was a year of 6 day weeks and 10-12 hour days required in the baccarat pit. So roughly 60+ hours a week to get to this number. The dealers as a whole, made far less, as much as 30k less on average working a normal 5 day/40 hour schedule. Oh yeah, sick calls required a doctors notice the day you come back with "you can return to work without restrictios" note on it even if it was graveyard on a tuesday morning. No note, write up/suspension and some were even terminated. Vacations were almost 100% declined after the first year as well as any special request and so on. It has nothing to do with poker dealers. |
