Have your kids pick out what they want before you reach the counter. Don't wait until you reach the front of the line to ask them.

If they can't see the menu choices from the line, ask the person behind to hold your spot.

Corollary: if a parent asks you to hold their spot in line so they can let their kid use a minute or two of waiting time to decide rather than a minute at the counter, please let them.

Another waiting in line one:
When a new cashier says 'I can help whose next over here', let the person in front of you decide if they want to go before running over there and cutting everyone off. A little courtesy goes a long way, nice thread.

The more I think about it somewhere (or in many places) the digital TV signal has to be buffered and sometimes the amount of buffering is significant.

Geosynchronous /stationary satellites are about 25,000 miles in space above the equator. The speed of light is about 186,000 miles per second. The round trip from North America only accounts for about a third of a second. If DirectTV is that far behind then they have to be holding onto bits somewhere.

DirecTV vs. Over-The-Air broadcast. The directv signal is recieved by DTV and then coded to MPEG to transmit over the satellites. The receiver on the other end decompresses the MPEG. That should be the cause of your delay.

On that note I would appreciate if you didn't just intermittently have Cherry Coke. Either carry it or don't. Stop [censored] teasing me.

Use blackle instead of google when you only need a standard search. It uses google's algorithm so your search results will be the same, but has a black background instead of a white one so it uses less energy. Helps the planet in a very small way, but every little bit helps I guess. http://blackle.com/about/

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, using an LCD, white is the "natural" state of a pixel. A black pixel requires electricity to block the light coming from the backlight behind the panel: In other words, this is total [censored]. A black screen requires charge, not a white one.

Take your sunglasses off when you are talking to someone. My grade 3 teacher taught me this, and I will never forget it. Eye contact counts in a conversation.
