3/6 Stars hand, more theory based
I don't generally post hands, so I don't have a converter. This is all theory anyhow. Unknow villain raises 18 UTG with $150 behind. I have him covered in the BB with QQ and it folds around to me. What is the play? If I raise to around 50 and he pushes I know I'm calling, so is it better to smooth call and not risk pushing off a worse hand proflop?
I found it interesting... results later. |

Why exactly do we have to call a push here?

Why exactly do we have to call a push here? [/ QUOTE ] Well OP has QQ vs. a 25BB stack. I play much lower limits so maybe this advice is wrong but I'd raise here for 3 reasons 1) for immediate value 2) to make it easier to stack villian 3) to punish Ax type hands which have a strong draw against you |

Re: 3/6 Stars hand, more theory based
once it folds around to you i call fairly often readless and stack off w/ an overpair. 3-betting and getting in pre isnt bad either obv.

Re: 3/6 Stars hand, more theory based
I ended up raising it to $54 and villain folded. I don't think folding to a RR was a viable option which made me question my decision to RR at all. Since I had already decided I'd be willing to stack off to a RR PF, maybe I should have just called and hoped the worst hand bet out on the flop. It's not like I'm raising a short-stack off AK PF here. If he had AA or KK and I RR him I'm going broke. If he had a worse hand then he might be able to get away from it. If he has AK then he's not going anywhere we'll probably race. The only drawback is if he raised with a hand like JJ or TT and the flop contained an ace or king, he could potentially CBET me off the best hand. I'm not sure if that -EV situation is more or less -EV than stacking off PF knowing that I'll either be a big dog or a coinflip, though.

Re: 3/6 Stars hand, more theory based
I call here and then c/r any flop without overcards most times. 3betting is ok too, but I probably only do that 25% of the time in this situation. I hope you are leveling Keys.
