Default The Palms cash games

Any one play at The Palms very much? I'm staying there next week for a few nights and will of course go over to the Rio as well but was wondering what the NL cash games are like?

2-5 has a $1000 max it says on their site...... The room nice? Run well? A lot of local grinders?

I appreciate any thoughts on the room, thanks!

I cannot say how the palms game is, in particular. I would think bigger cap games like that would have more grinders ( IE good players make more money in deep stack situations). However, I was not impressed by the grinders in Las Vegas games. I played 10/20 nl 5/10 and 2/5 and almost everyone was terrible (similar skill levels across the games). I didn't meet one player I could respect in at 2/5nl Bellagio or MGM.

Honestly, the 5/10 played like an online 1/2 nl game.

I am fairly certain any 2/5 game you will play should be relatively easy. Just based on my experiences (I go about 5-6 times a year), all the decent grinders are playing atleast 5/10 so you shouldn't be too worried if you are a winning player.

Also, remember to loosen up a little in late position. This is live poker kiddies.

I play quite a bit live and have played in a lot of casinos in Vegas, just never at the Palms.

Has anyone played the $1000 game there?

I played there on Saturday afternoon. I cashed out a couple of hundred after being stuck for $800. There were some young guys from Boston that enjoyed the cocktails and big bets. I had dinner reservations or otherwise I would have stayed.

Nice room, very close to the restrooms.

The game can get pretty wild. Especially weekend evenings. Sure there are locals playing, but you also get a mix of tourists and club goers.

Last time I was by there one of the 2/5 games had several $3k+ stacks - and they do cap the buyin. In fact I hav heard they won't let black chips play (to avoid someone sneaking in > cap) though they may have changed that.

I stopped going there because there wasn't any action. I still contest that all the "action" here is nothing but urban legend

There's a 300 hour req for a pretty big freeroll going on right now, so the games are typically full of nits, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays. It ends at the end of the month, so the games should get better. Btw, the Palms regs aren't really good, just pretty tight.
