Default Keep The Swastika-Save Some Lives

Just saw a story on CNN where they show that Google aerial photos discovered that a building owned by the US Navy appears from above to be in the shape of a swastika. No one noticed this for decades. Perhaps there were recent additions to the structure. In any case the shape is obviously inadvertant and can only be seen from a high flying plane.

Still the Navy is planning to spend 600K to fix it. Couldn't that money be better spent? I believe that after a little thought, Jewish groups would agree with me that they should urge the Navy to instead give the money to a children's hospital or something like that. And once Jewish groups suggested it, others would go along.

In fact the whole situation could turn into an opportunity to make an important symbolic gesture rather than merely $600,000 worth of shrubbery.

Hopefully two plus twoers will agree with me and prod the right people.

Seems like an easy decision to me. If you' are going to go about removing all that resembles a swastika you will be wasting a lot of money on making landscape politically correct when viewed from 20000 feet

Who is to say it isn't in the shape of a Buddhist manji? In that case, it would stand for universal harmony and they should be spending money to make *more* of their buildings into manjis.

Should we go back and force Nintendo to change the shape of the 3rd dungeon in Legend of Zelda too?

Why is everyone so overly sensitive about stupid [censored]?

$600,000 is like a tiny tiny tiny fraction of our military's annual budget. also its the military, they essentially spend money to kill people all the time. this $600k is not being used to kill people so thats good right?

If everyone were smart / rational, I would agree.

But I can imagine people protesting / quitting their jobs over this / maybe even causing riots, so maybe it's worth the 600k?

How long has this building looked like this, how long have people known about it, and how many have lost their jobs picketing?

I was under the impression that it was a very recent discovery.

This is old news.

I've since deleted the picture from my photobucket account, but it was pretty much the exact same google earth overhead shot.

The other thing is, I'm sure there will be more than just aesthetic use for that 600k. I hope they are adding more offices or whatever with that money.
