Default ThePost\'s New Diet + Exercise Plan

Been browsing through the forums posts and I saw a lot of people loose significant amounts of weight and generally get a whole lot healthier. I'm ready to do the same.

Background:
- 26 years old, 249 lbs (being 250 lbs is unbelievable to me)
- 6 foot 5 inches
- Small back problems, but can be kept mostly in check
- Computer programmer (Not much work activity)
- Pretty competitive adult basketball league player (Season starts up this Sunday!)
- Previous Eating Habits: A ton of eating out, pop and general unhealthiness constantly
-

New Diet Plans:
- No more non diet pop (Hello Coke Zero)
- Breakfast: Snack on carrots and perhaps Apple juice? (maybe actual apple since I know you guys will recommend this)
- Bagging lunches of basically chicken & rice & veggies. Might mix this up later
- Dinner will often be a similar stir fry deal, but will expand to other healthyish options (Diety Subway, Pita's, etc.)

Exercise:
- 3/4 times per week will do 2 - 3 mile walk/jog/run ,(hopefully improving constantly)
- 2-3 sets of 100 sit-ups/crunches
- various light barbell weight lifting
** Most of this activity will be done at home on the treadmill
- Various weekly basketball games

Pondering Target:
By the end of 2007 (3.5 months) I would like to be 230 lbs or less. This doesn't seem like a stretch to do, agree?
I liked the idea I found here about donating $$$ to a charity I despise if I don't make my goal.

I realize my plan might be a bit on the simple side, but as I've seen from some other successful posters , that's not such a bad thing.

Thoughts?

I've never done a lot of arm workouts before so my arms aren't all that strong. What would you consider a heavy routine that I could do?

Congrats on making changes in your life. That being said, carrots and apple juice is not a breakfast. I usually have some sort of combination of egg whites, oatmeal, fruit or yogurt depending on my needs. Also, 100 crunches are generally a waste of time. Core exercises and core related lifts like squats are generally better. And drop the pop, period.
