Re: What are your all time favorite announcers\' calls?
Kind of agree with Drew.
I have to think there are Yankees fans who think it just sounds ridiculous just as I believe there are plenty of White Sox fans who are REALLY annoyed with the Hawk's silly stuff. |

My favorites have already been mentioned but I thought this was great because he just gets out of the way after making his call:

As a Jays fan, the call on Joe Carter's World Series walkoff HR in '93 still gives me chills.

I prefer Vin Scully's version of Kirk Gibson's homerun, although Jack Buck's is a favorite of mine as well.

[ QUOTE ] "It is high. It is long. It is gone! THE YANKEES WIN! THHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YAKNEES WIN!" [/ QUOTE ] My theory: The beauty of this is that if you hate the Yankees, you hate this call-- But if you like the Yankees, you've grown to like this call after realizing how much it annoys the haters. Listening to a lot of baseball on the radio, I think Sterling, et al are second rate, and maybe even bottom tier. I often go with the opponent's crew when listening to Yankee games. [/ QUOTE ] i can't really argue this point, but you have to understand that growing up a yankees fan means loving the sound of that call forever. plus, they're going to win the division this year! |

"but you have to understand that growing up a yankees fan means loving the sound of that call forever."
As I previously mentioned, my theory is that there are actually Yankees fans who are NOT loving the sound of that call. I'm not a Yankees fan myself so understand I am speculating on this stuff as an 'outsider' but whatever...I still think my opinion is valid. You HAVE to love Bob Shephard on the P.A. to be a Yankees fan. To not love Shephard is to not love the Yankees. But Sterling's call I think is closer to whether or not you love/hate Steinbrenner or you think Torre isn't that great. You can be anti-Steinbrenner or anti-Torre or anti-"THAAAAAAAAAAAAA YANKEES WIN" but still be a Yankees fan. |
