I am in the same boat as you, OP.

I was considering a triple setup from digitaltigers, 24" center and two 17" portraits on the side.

However, after thinking it over I've been sold on a 30" and I'll probably add one portrait on the side for 2p2/music etc while mutlitabling on the 30".....

I'm curious which brand you are going for? Seems like Dell has the best rep overall.

I haven't gotten too deep into researching which brands to go with yet, as I can't even narrow down the setup I'm going with

That said, the Apple is by far the nicest, but also the spendiest ($1800ish). The only other 2 options I see, in the 30" area is the Dell and Samsung. Samsung has a great reputation with their smaller screens, so I very well may lean that way, but again, I haven't done much homework on this yet.

But I assure you, I am the king of research before I buy anything of value. Hell, I spent 2 weeks researching vacuum cleaners before I pulled the trigger a couple years back. You can only imagine what I go thru for something like this. But with that said, I promise I'm never disappointed and I get every cent of value out of my purchases

Get a 305t with two 204b in portrait. Or two 305t with two 204b in portrait. Or four 305t.

At least one 30" monitor in your setup. That is all you'll really need. Add two 20" LCD in portrait if you'd like. But it is overkill (I have such a setup). Simply one 30" is more than enough.

You can get a quad 20" 1600x1200 set up for the price of that 30".

I have a quad setup:

1 2
3 4

No complaints here.

Well, for those that care, I've decided on the following:

The HP LP3065 30" LCD monitor for the main screen, run by a 8800GTX vid card

(links to reviews of said monitor):

ExtremeTech Review

Anandtech review

Hot Hardware review (last page compares the Dell and HP)

Widescreengamingforum User review w/ pics!

This will then be flanked by dual 20" monitors in portrait, run off of my current 7900GT vid card.

Thanks for all your help fellas and I can't wait til next month when I get these!!!

2x 1920x1200

why?

because most decent gfx cards have two dvi outputs. two monitors better than one - what if your 30" breaks down? what if you're playing pc games? switch the other monitor off and save power.

Also, you'll need a really beefy gfx card e.g. 8800GTX 640mb nvidia to drive it at 2500x1600 res.
