I don't think there is an rule of thumb or anything like that to know when to push

Maybe using the Pushbot Charts may help getting a feeling for Push or Fold Situations.

If you just look for a free calculator then I'd recommend: ICM Poker

i found the expanation i was looking for. it was in the bluff mag. of feb. 2007 page 42. good article to read.

Joey: ICM stands for Independent Chip Model. It’s basically applied statistics, relating the blinds to the amount of chips a player has. So, let’s say I’m on the button with 2,000 chips, and the small blind is 200 and the big blind is 400. If I go all in here, there are three possible outcomes. Either I will take down the blinds, and receive 600 chips. Or I could be called and win and receive +2,200 chips, assuming the person who calls has me covered. And lastly, I could be called and lose my full 2,000 chips. ICM is the addition of these three possible outcomes. If this combined outcome is a positive number, then it is the correct play in the long run.

Chip: Knowing ICM is key to any high level sit-n-go player, because it is “the answer” to how to play a sit-n-go.
