Default 2nd pair play

FTP .25/.50 Limit 9 max

UTG1 is 42.9/9.1/2.0/55 hands
Hero in SB with Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

UTG1 limps, CO (poster) checks, BU calls, SB completes, BB checks.

I complete because over 7 to 1 to play. I am trying to play more hands from the SB & in general.

Flop: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 SB/5 players

Hero checks, BB checks, UTG1 bets, CO folds, BU folds, Hero calls, BB calls.

I am getting 6 to 1 to call or 7 to 1 if BB calls. I have maybe 4 good outs (2 9's and BDSD & BDFD, Q would give me 2 pair but would also complete a straight.) so I need to pick up 3 bets later so it is pretty close for a call.

Turn: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Hero checks, BB checks, UTG1 bets, Hero?

A J is certainly in UTG1's range so do I just keep going into call down mode if blanks keep falling?

I fold since you only beat weaker 9 and <=88 .

I think that your pf call is fine.

I would have preferred the pot to be slightly bigger to call the flop.

Anyway, when you do not improve on the turn, the pot is relatively smaller (in terms of bet size), and I would fold to the turn bet.

UTG seems to be loose pf, but not overly agressive postflop. You have 2 opponents on the turn, and a medium hand, for which you have been given no reason to think that it is best.

Calling down for another 2 BB in a 5 BB pot seems unnecessary to me.

Anyone else betting out on the flop? Folding if two back, calling if one and re-evaluating on turn? Or is the pot too small for this?

Well the occasional donk is fine on the flop against certain opponents but the call is clearly correct.

turn is a fold.

Does this count as a donk with no preflop raise?
