Why do people do this? Hardly ever are the stories or the conversation actually funny or even meant to be funny. This has really started to be a pet peeve of mine. I find myself saying it too but can't get myself to quit.

Eh - it's just a colloquialism for "peculiar", "curious" and it's usually a personal view on the next sentence. Does it really matter?

Seems like they are all just different attention grabbers or sentence-starters.
You know, man, it's funny, f*ck all don't have their literal meaning when used in such a way.

Most of the time it's similar to saying "Hey, listen to this" or "something I find curious is" or something like that.
