Beastie Boys Other Name?

I'm watching some concert video on VH1 and it reminded me. In 1995 or 1996 I saw them in concert in Tahoe, but they were all hush hush and playing under an assumed name for some reason. I think it was an AIDS benefit snowboard contest/music festival. Someone got the inside scoop somehow so we went and checked it out. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Did my mind make this up somehow?

It's pretty common for a bunch of bands to do preview/warm-up shows like this. I've seen the Beastie Boys and Green Day in the Bay Area playing at small venues with fake names.

This used to be cool, now is pretty lame with the Internet.

When they play as quazar they play pretty much exclusively as a hardcore unit.

i saw Quazer play on my 21st b-day (april 11, 1996) at the grind skate park in sacramento. they play a bunch of punk songs. the only one i recognized was called "tough guy". before they went on stage i was bouncing around with a bunch of other monkeys to some [censored] band and i look to my left and Adam Yauch was there bouncing around too. after the [censored] band was done i shook his hand and said somehting corny like "thanks for coming out" and that was that. cool for a 21st birthday. btw, i also got pulled over and got to do a field sobriety test on the side of a freeway (which i passed, barely i think) after the show.
